Fantastic elements take place such as Elena flying away on campnell giant glass bird but not questioned. In Elena’s Serenade, a young Hispanic girl wants to become a glassblower, but is told by her father that she cannot because she is a girl.
Elena is determined to become a glass blower even after papa says no. Her papa is a glassblower who makes bottles.
The charming illustrations and rich, almost lulling, text made me feel as though I had been transported to Mexico and was traveling alongside the narrator in her adventure. This book initially captured my interest when it was on display in elenits Chihuly Resource Room at Franklin Park Conservatory. This is a story I would use with younger students to encourage them to follow their dreams and to never give up like Elena did.

The illustrations correspond to the text and are colorful and provide great detail. Elena wants to become a glassblower regardless of what her culture has planned for her, and men who are glassblowers do not believe women should be glassblowers. Hardcover40 pages. I would ask my students what they thought about that, cmapbell if there was ever a time that they felt like they couldn’t or shouldn’t do something just because they were a boy or a girl.
Recommended Grade Level- Kindergarten Notes- Elena’s Serenade is an example of a multicultural book, and is an appropriate choice for a book display centered around Hispanic culture.
So how did it play with Harriet? This book is fun, quirky, and absolutely beautiful. The pictures are beautiful, bold, and colorful. Elena is a young girl who lives in Mexico. They also provide a lot to discuss cmapbell the students. Elena’s dad didn’t want her to be a glassblower because of the stereotypical views that it was a mans job.
But overall the story was very interesting and it held her attention. I would use this book to show my cmapbell how to incorporate their native language into their own writing.

She disguises herself and goes to Monterrey to disobey her father and learn glassblowing. She makes it to the city and uses her skills she greslin on her trip to perform better than the great glassblowers.
While this story takes on many elements of fantasy, it shows that with determination one can achieve their dreams. Cambell only had a chance to flip through the pages at the time, but what I saw was enough for me to purchase the book. In this book, Elena, a young girl living in Mexico wants nothing more than to be a glassblower, but unfortunately, her Dad is not supportive of her dream.

Some characters are talking animals, cammpbell the book is not convincing but the main character Elena seems authentic.
