The word means different things to different people. Likewise when it comes to microphones.
Some are ordinary run-of-the-mill studio microphones built to do an honest, if somewhat mundane, job. Some of which I own, others I simply lust after!
Particularly good on toms or snare apparently. It was also much used as a PA microphone for conferences or even outdoor events. I own two of them.
The first recording we made was of a brass band in a small hall. In terms of specification there are several models to choose from. Also, some versions come fitted with on and off switches model type S or it can come without.
Frequency range is quoted by AKG as 30 to 16, Hz. Impedance is ohms and sensitivity at Hz: Maximum sound pressure level is dB SPL. The grille is sintered bronze and incorporates a wind and pop shield. There should be no loss of sensitivity from this type of grille.
AKG claim low handling noise which would make the microphone suited for reporters and interviewing.

It was supplied with a padded box d910e stand adaptor. The D comes into its own as a tapesponding microphone. These little devices boost the signal output of moving coil or ribbon microphones and present d190f workable level for your mixer or pre-amp. The simplicity of the D means it will most probably be very reliable.
There is little to go wrong unless it sustains actual severe physical damage. Hence the reason why most of them go on for years and years. Never pay that amount! I currently have a tapespondent who still r190e the D as his main mic. His recordings are clear and impressive. I feel the AKG is still a good little starter microphone for anyone getting into tapesponding for the first time. Like r190e dynamics it will be fairly forgiving if the acoustics of your room are less than perfect.
